Incisive & Terri Walker make a song!

Back in July, I bumped into my favourite Female UK RnB Artist, Terri Walker.  She vowed that we would make a song in the next 6 weeks. Obviously, schedules clashed but eventually, we got together and managed to make a song that I LOVE - because I think its a good song but more because its not they TYPICAL song that you think would come from myself and Terri Walker...at all...  Here is that process...

MUZU TV VIDEO VOTE

My Dead Presidents 2010 (see post below) video was put up on MUZU for a video vote against the Gorillas WORLD Debut video (it didnt make sense to me that such a big video was being put up against little old me but whatever - I saw it as a challenge).

To my surprise, the video was viewed over 1000 times in under 6 hours and got over 30 "likes" and I WON the video vote and was put on the front page of the muzu.tv website the next day - thanks for your support!!

Completing Go 'Cisive

You may have seen a previous post a clip of when I started working on a song for my album called "Go 'Cisive". Well since then, ive completed the song but not before recruiting the services of "Revolutionary Zuri" - the Sax player in the band.

Those ol skool New Jack Swing type songs always use to have a brass instrument going on somewhere - I felt like my song needed that authentic feel - to sound like a sample when its not.  Think I nailed it....here's the process.

Random creative moments

I guess this next video isnt as focused as most of them normally are in that its not about one particular thing.

I have most fun with music in the creation stages - to see music being created out of nothing or see and hear the development in a studio is one of the things I love MOST in the world - problem is, most of the time, people dont film that stage because...well you're busy being creative.

Luckily for me, Im so used to having the camera around that i've been able to capture random moments when I first made a tune or the first words that came to my head once the beat was done etc.  Watching the early stages back of a song, and then months down the line, having it on your album or performing it...I guess its my own version of watching my kids grow....maybe a bit too far but u know what i mean!!

So in order, we got:

1. Yasmin Baker in the studio working on her project - I put this in because watching yasmin develop as an artist, getting better and more confident everyday is a beautiful thing...I think shes got big things ahead of her...

2. Me a couple weeks back - I havent made anything for myself since I mastered the final album in march BUT I actually woke up with this song in my head...the whole thing..and HAD to make it so....it might even squeeze itself on the album..."Go Cisive"

3. Do it - this is the lead single for my album and the song that was reviewed in this months edition of Music week - this was me in the studio at like 3am after 6hours, completing the final mix...

4. Untitled - myself and donaeo after a studio session, he has this song in his head, and it just all comes out - would be nice to see how this one turns out if it ever gets completed - again, its just about seeing things in the earliest stages possible - imagine hearing just blaze beat box Jay-z's "public service announcement" before it was made - im not saying the song is anything like that but...u know what I mean!!

5. Album intro - again, this is the actual take I used on the album for the verse on the intro - this is my black album stuff

6.  Finally, this is myself, Shakka and the band playing a song called just wait which I originally produced in 2008.  This moved from an idea in my head, to a song in my bedroom, to a song done by a 7 piece band...hopefully its journey isnt over...

...just wait....

So,

As I explained in my LoNG last text post, ive during september (and still this month) I stopped almost everything to complete the album. Its about 75% complete now id say - Ive recorded ALL of my verses but ive got one more feature to record then mixing and mastering to go throught which I guess would be the other 25%.

So this video diary is nothing but studio sessions - I hope you still enjoy/enjoyed it and see what time and effort goes into a 3:30 song or even an album that you may or may not like...hopefully you like mine.

Nice one

Sewuese, Incisive, Te1 Studio session

Even though Ive been doing quite a few shows recently and have just put up the mixtape for free download, Ive still got to keep on keepin on (pun intended). So here is me back in the Studio with the VERY talented Sewuese - doing a "non hiphop song" that i am LOVING right now and cant wait to finish....

Sewuese is also a My-ish (The management/development team I am with ) artist, along with myself, Donaeo, Danso, and Eaproz.

Amongst alot other things, you may have heard Sewuese on Sways song ft Lemar "Saturday night hustle" singin "its Sway Dasafo from Dcyphaaaaaaaaa..." But below is her in her own stride singing an original song for a tv station....please watch it - the song is amazing!!

The Time (to collab) is now...

Ok...so Happy New Year and All that Malarchy...

(Studio Video at the end if you dont want to read....but please read..)

Its a new year, so I guess its time to do New things....I dunno about resolutions most of the time because people dont really stick to them but Ive got one that I think Im going to try and stick to...

Looking at myself from the Outside in, ive come to realise that musically, im quite a "snob".

What I mean by that is that I dont really collaborate with other artists (outside my immediate camp of Shax and now TE1) to the point where I can honestly say that if I worked with you in 2008 (or at anytime in the past for that matter), I have either seen something in you that I thought was EXTREMELY special (not just special...EXTREMELY)...OR...you bugged the hell outta me!! ...and thats real...

Quite snobbish right??...well actually, the reasoning behind this isnt so bad.

Coming up musically, I learnt that relying on people is LONG because everyone is prone or able to let you down at some point...you can let yourself down...but then thats your own doing and no one elses...this is why I taught myself how to play piano, guitar, produce, bought equipment for my house so that I could record, engineer, master and be a self contained unit - no one to rely on...no one to slow me down...no one to blame....

I guess this mentality, plus a ridiculously busy schedule rubbed off on my outlook of collaborating with artists - I havent got time to open myself up to relying on something that could possibly let me down in anyway...etc...

ALSO...a couple artists who have reached out have been in a better position in the industry than I am and I hate to think that after ALL my hard work of doing everything myself and building myself up as an artist, im going to be introduced to the mainstream on the back of another artists career and for this reason, I even (foolishly) shy away from collaborating with bigger, more known artists...

THERE ARE a few artists that I wanted to work with last year but just HONESTLY didnt have the schedule to do it...Its no excuse because I shouldve MADE the time...im just highlighting the fact that there are ONE OR TWO people I DID want to work with last year but just didnt make enough effort...so dont automatically be offended if i didnt/havent worked with u...

In 2007/8 though, I reached out to shax because I saw something EXTREMELY special in him as an artist but he was slightly unfocused at times so I brought him into my space so that he was able to record more regularly, and learn whatever I could teach in terms of engineering...and the technical side of making music...since then...we've been musical co dee's, Ive learnt alot from him creatively, and we've made REAL good music together..seperately (Including a song with Kadija Kamara that I produced)...and collaborating on songs like release - my upcoming single...

Last summer...I randomly drove past a guy a producer I new from college who I was always meant to work with. I knew he was talented ages ago and fate would have it that I was just stuntin in the sun with the roof back with no where particular I pulled over and let him catch up...
I exchanged numbers with TE1 to record a track, which we did the following week but again, the chemistry was there and so we ended up doing a WHOLE mixtape together of songs entirely produced by him (which is in its final stages). We made some REAL good music on that as well with songs like "Nothing Compares" (somewhere in a previous post) and he stretched my musical boundaries to another place...

What Im saying is that collabs are actually a good thing and I collaborated with one or two other artists/producers who reached out to me that year as well...all with positive results (Shout out to Origimoz, Leslie Lewis Walker, Crey Mey, Chocolate Blonde Raw Smilez and Cappuchino).

Realising that now in retrospect...ima try and MAKE time, and reach out to people and stop being a "Musical Snob"...im on collaborating with ANY and EVERYone (that makes GOOD music)..thats my resolution...

Heres the studio video of a collab I done on the TE1 project with Kyza Smirfnoff...

"InCiSive" Studio Vid!

'S Happening people!

Quick update on whats happening and a studio video at the bottom! : Im still working on the two mixtapes which are both one or two tracks from completion - and the album...

In more immediate news, I am starting to service (fancy word for "sending out to djays") my song "Release" on the buildup to the video release in January!!! (The song is on my myspace! Http://www.myspace.com/incisive1 ) so if you remember me when listening to radio, txt the dj and request Release by Incisive!

Ive been slippin with the blog posts I know but I dont like writing things without any content to post...maybe I should start though - its hard to keep up...

Anyway, here is a studio video of Myself, Shax and TE1 in the studio on the day I recorded a song called "InCiSive" produced by TE1...I warn u though - the video is 10 minutes!!!
I "cut" it to this length so (those who are interested...) can see what its like in the studio completely. So its mostly us just jammin, talking, bussin joke but all about our music with some EXCLUSIVE PREVIEWS in between.

If you are not really into the whole "studio video" thing - fwd to 7 minutes in to see the actual "Incisive" song recording... I just realised this is the FIRST video I have posted where you can see me actually laying down a verse...so yea...7 minutes in if anything...enjoy!

Ill just wait...(Studio session vid!)

Hey...

Ive got a new studio session video (for those interested - I know that wont be all of you!!) but before that...

Its official, ive withdrawn the summertime video from the tv stations I sent it to. Alot of politics that wasted valuable time and now summer has gone. Im quite disappointed with it all BUT ive still got my other video (which alot of you seem to like - thanks for the comments on the making of vid) and so I guess I gotta take a step back and come with a new strategy.

In the meantime, the music dont stop though!! I met up with shax last night for a little studio session and we came up with something quite appropriate for this whole blog so heres the studio session. I could only cut so much from the filming so it IS quite long so ive split it into two parts - if you dont want to watch it all - go to the end of part two to hear the final song we made.

Watch all the vid if you cant and Dont forget to leave a comment on this page (you can leave anonymous comments) OR my facebook group wall - http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=17991897985

Making of Stay Fly

Again, me and shax working together on a new song I produced.

We like to bounce ideas off each other as you will see....I was real pleased with the finished product - this is the road toward it - how the chorus developed etc...This is probably for my SECOND album...(not the one with summertime/release on it) or maybe even third album seeing as im working at two at a time at the moment - one with TE1 and one myself....

anyway....enjoy!!

Fine By You - Introducing Shax

I work quite alot with a young, VERY talented artist called shax - he's a vocalist and a producer. He done the backing vocals on my second single - release and was in the video - you'll see him in it when you see the vid (soon...soon...i promise!!)

Anyway, far from just a backing vocalist, he's an artist in himself...here's a track that I produced that he turned into a masterpiece if I do say so myself. This is the initial writing session - the final track has got Kadija Kamara on the second verse which is straight mind blowing...here's the writing session...enjoy!

Beatmaking august 07 sample tune

This, again, is an oldie but a goody. Its a LONG arse video though so i guess you should only watch it if you are really interested in the whole beatmaking process - i go through it step by step - this is a sampled song though - recent events have shown me that samples in this country are LOOOOOOOOOOONGGG.

I guess them americans use them because they got record companies behind them who will deal with clearance etc - I tried getting sample clearance once with a song called come into my life (may post later) - was the longest and most tedious process of my life and I still ended up without clearance because they wanted 100% profits of the single!!! Imagine that....

Anyway...back to the video...enjoy....
