Plan B Performance Video (some of it)

So As you all know (hopefully), I performed a 15 minute set in the newly refurbished Plan B in November at a new night. Sometimes, when performing, ESPECIALLY with a live band the message or overall music can get lost in bad speakers, or a bad engineer and you end up just hearing the band or sometimes, not even them properly. Fortunately, the money was spent well in Plan B and the sound (and sound engineer) was on POINT.

Performing in brixton, you expect a hood crowd, but it was a good diverse, mix of people so yea....I enjoyed this one. Unfortunately, because of a busy week of filming, my camera ran out after the first song (which is the only old song I performed that night - Release) - all the other songs were BRAND NEW songs that I performed for the first time with the band that night so im looking for footage of that night from elsewhere....hopefully ill have that soon..in the meanwhile...here's me performing "Release" at Plan B.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY YASMIN!!!

Yasmin Baker is the very talented pianist AND vocalist I met through performing with Shakka's band. She also accompanied me and duncan james on my performance and long road trip to CIRENCESTER and recently on one of my favourite songs on my upcoming album.

If you see myself or Shakka perform, after us (hopefully), one of the first things you will notice (apart from the talent of the entire band) is Yasmin behind her keyboard dancing her HEART OUT to the point you start to wonder if she is ACTUALLY playing the keyboard - I mean she moves more than I do and shouts out and backs my verses more than shakka does...lol...but trust me...she plays keys with the best of them!!!

More than anything though, I consider her musical family now so when her 20th birthday plans fell through, me and the band got together to throw her a surprise "do"....here's how it went (Drama's included)!!

HAPPY BDAY YAS!!

Knew we were trouble

Hope you enjoy the video above. I really really feel what Mr Hudson is doing - I first saw him a while back at a Kanye concert he was opening for - I went straight home and found his blog and was the FIRST PERSON EVER to leave a comment on his FIRST POST EVER ( HERE - the bread and roses post). Then I got his album at the time "Bread and Roses" and realised this dude has got something VERY special.

So yea man, I took his tune (from his new album "Straight no chaser"), looped it over and got some random things off my chest - namely the fact that music has taken over my life and technically it has been "Trouble" from the start. Without music, I wouldve focused soooo much time, effort and money elsewhere in my life and I could be in a completely different space. Fortunately, this path is nothing that I regret - so this song is not a regret song.....its more of an observation.

HOPE YOU LIKED IT!!

PLEASE FOLLOW ME ON MY JOURNEY AND WATCH IT ALL!! THANKS!

So,

As I explained in my LoNG last text post, ive during september (and still this month) I stopped almost everything to complete the album. Its about 75% complete now id say - Ive recorded ALL of my verses but ive got one more feature to record then mixing and mastering to go throught which I guess would be the other 25%.

So this video diary is nothing but studio sessions - I hope you still enjoy/enjoyed it and see what time and effort goes into a 3:30 song or even an album that you may or may not like...hopefully you like mine.

Nice one

P.S I HAVE GOT A SPECIAL VIDEO DIARY FOR YOU NEXT TIME!!

Tuesday 29 September 2009

Long time no speak!

Whats happening people,

Today I was going through my blog, just checking recent posts (like say I dunno what I posted!) but na...just checkin over it to try and get an objective view like - if this was the first time I came to this blog, would I like it, would I get to know the artist bla bla.

My conclusion is...yea...its decent BUT I feel like all these video blogs are getting quite impersonal. I mean you see me in my element, day to day, at shows, in the studio, in my house etc which is as personal as it can get BUT at the same time, its like you are a fly on the wall...an outside observer. I want you to be part of my whole journey and so I thought Id write directly to YOU..the readers....or of late, watchers....

SO obviously, from the last couple video diaries (if you havent watched them, scroll below this post and do so), you can tell that ive been in the studio ALOT recently. I feel like a robot sometimes - doing this music between a 9 to 5 is madness if you really work as hard on music as you should.

Over the past couple weeks, ive been going straight from work, (9-5), to my house to get my mic, laptop and change if theres time, then to mc dees to get a munch on the way to the studio....till like 3 or 5 am....wake up 7:30 for work...then do it all again. Its sounds unbelievable but on a normal week, I sleep around 5 hours a night (dont ask why..im just not a big sleeper) so the sleep depreviation isnt anything new....its just that working round the clock takes it OUT of you to the point last friday, I got in from work just after 5pm and fell asleep straight away till like 11pm....on a FRIDAY NIGHT lol.

BUT this, I guess is whats necessary...you get in what you put in...so hopefully...I reap what im sowing soon - I go studio mostly with super producer TE1 who engineers for me but if he isnt around, I go by myself and sit with four walls (no windows), two speakers and carry on making my album. Its not an issue...its just that at the end of the day, no one is gonna work harder on your goals than you are...ive learnt to rely on the only person I can guarantee will NEVER let me down- myself. I know its good to be able to lean on others sometimes but if you want something done straight away..you do it yourself - real talk.

Thats why I taught myself how to produce, record, engineer, mix, master, play couple instruments, make my own websites, edit my own videos..and anything else I cant do, I will google, learn, and do - you lot should know I love some google - lol - im reading it back and it sounds like im upset with someone- its not that at all...its more....ok...I stopped going to the Gym a while back (dont worry, keep reading it will make sense) because the person I went Gym with always had a conflicting timetable and for some reason, I dont like going Gym by myself....proper gym goers go to the Gym by themselves because at the end of the day, its there body...no one elses...and it looking good is the motivation as opposed to a gym buddy motivating and so you go, you workout, and come home - gym buddy or no gym buddy - thats the attitude I take to music....at the end of the day, its my music....and it sounding good is the motivation...studio buddy or no studio buddy....hope that makes sense...anyway..

When I started this crazy studio schedule, I decided to put a hold on doing shows too as the preparation, rehersals and all that kind of thing takes me out of studio mode and I cant really do alot of performances and have a constant studio timetable at the same time...one will suffer. So after the summer spurt...I decided to fall back. I did get asked by Bang Radio to do a performance and be on a panel of judges for a young peoples event they are planning for mid October which I couldnt say no too and I also had a show to do at PLAN B in brixton on the 5th November but I agreed to that ages ago so watch out for more info on those.

I guess thats the update for now...think ive gone on way too much. I hope you lot are good.

Thanks for reading.

P.s - a random side thought...who knows your passwords? I mean its a random question but touch wood - if anything were to happen to you, is there someone that you trust enough to have given your passwords for your laptop, facebook, email, your blackberry, your bank card etc? I say that because im just about finished my album...but if anything happens to me, will no one knowing the laptop password lock the album away for ever? or if someone wanted to let people know something happened to me, does anyone know my blackberry password? Just a side thought...I know the answer for me....whats your answer? comment...

Alaye ft 9ice

As you know, I try and keep this blog different from the hundreds out there by keeping the content down to my own stuff so that you wont see it everywhere else. Going against that though, im going to post a video by my boy Alaye. He's a rap artist from Ladbroke Grove (my manor) that has been doing this for YEARS and was one of the people I looked up to from back in the day. Before Channel U or Channel AKA, he was one of the FIRST "urban" artists that I know of to get his video (Big Budget video) on TV which was on "The Box" and those music channels on videoway cable (the older ones will remember - its a song called "Can I get a" - ill post it below). Now he works alot in Africa, hence this video featuring a Big artist from Africa called 9nice - I like the tune, nice vibe it premiered on MTV BASE AFRICA yesterday - Shout out to Alaye:

Artist Profile : King

I dunno if you know this but I work once a week in a youth centre, teaching a sound engineering course to 13- 21 year olds. It takes up alot of valuable time and gives me an 18 hour working day every week but I do it for two reasons - one selfish, one selfless:

1. To give these younger up and coming dudes the chance to get in the studio that I first started recording in to develop they own talents as I did.

2. To inspire me. There is NOTHING like seeing the energy of young talent. Talent not polluted by industry politics, by thinking about marketing, your first single, your image - all of that stuff. Seeing that RAW talent of kids who write bars upon bars everyday but havent put together ONE song. Or producers who make amazing beats but cant sequence the song properly into intro, verse, chorus etc. Its inspirational and takes me back there - I think thats when music is most pure - so thats the selfish part I guess.

It was through teaching / engineering in this studio, I met the talented Nutty P, where I first met my current label mate Sewuese back in the 90s, I met Mc Romeo there back in the day, I met Kyza Smirnoff there, I obviously bumped into Shax there and then the amount of local young people with talent i met there is phenomenal. A big SHOUT out to Raw Smilez too (I need to get you on this yesterday fam! - I know I Know).

Alot of these people I meet develop they skills as I did and go on to do they own thing as you may know. KING is one of them who I met YEARS ago - one of the original co-founders of Hoodstars. He's on fire right now and come into his own - that was a freestyle he done for me - he's off to do his own big things. This is him and his team on westwood a while back. (He comes in third around 2:30)

RIP MJ

Not gonna say much on this as the world is talking about it and probably all feel the same. But right now, Im REAL REAL SAD. This man put me ON music. He was cupid and made me fall in Love with music.

One of my earliest memories - in life in general goes back to 1987 when I was 4 years old. I remember being sick off school one day in primary (not really sick - u know when kids play up) and for some reason, I had to go down portobello road with my dad (we live round the corner from it) and we passed woolworths (another thing that is no longer) and the Michael Jackson "Bad" album was all over the shelves as it had just come out. And I begged my dad to buy it for me - it was on cassette at the time, I didnt have a stereo so I remember listening to it over and over in the living room until my uncle joe bought me a walkman for christmas so I could listen to it myself.

BAD was my first album EVER.

R.I.P Michael Jackson - there will not EVER be a pop star as influential, as international, as successful, or as talented as him - ever.

its a sad thing for real.

Even though Ive been doing quite a few shows recently and have just put up the mixtape for free download, Ive still got to keep on keepin on (pun intended). Shax & Incisive History and "Talk To Me" Acoustic

(Yes theres a video - just read then watch!)

So doing shows, you get to show off your music and (Hopefully) make an impression on people for them to buy your music, follow your campaign, or for other musicians to want to work with you.

After my favourite performance EVER at Shoreditch House (Watch Here), Myself and Shax who I performed with were approached by a tall, slim friendly faced white dude who introduced himself as "Ed". He told us he played guitar, and "Really really enjoyed the performance, loved our sound, our message, and the whole vibe we brought and would love to work with us". So we took his number down with the aim to meet up with him at some point. Its funny when you do that because you have NO idea what level or how talented the person is - if its an artist, you can go home and check they myspace or something, but a guitarist normally hasnt got anything like that - For some reason though, we had a feeling about "Ed"- sometimes you just get that feeling without even hearing the person sing/play, that they are gonna be good - which was backed by the people he mentioned he played giggs with. Down to clashing schedules though, we didnt link up for THREE MONTHS. Here's a bit of what happened when we finally did though.....

(Shax cussed me out for taking a video from one of his posts on HIS blog so click the pic to see the original post - the videos are at the bottom - im talking about the "Talk to me" video - both are entertaining, as is his post - please click read and watch)

A bit of Incisive/Shax History

As you regular readers probably know by now, I work quite closely with a talented vocalist/producer by the name of "Shax". We produce quite alot of music together, feature on each others songs, and do shows together, and throughout this blog, he pops up ALOT to the point where people ask if we are a duo group. No...the answer is no, we are not a duo, we just understand each other musically and inspire, and push each other - I guess you need people around you that do that.

Shax is actually a few years younger than me so I actually know him through his big brother, Justin who I went to college with, and university with - we were housemates for two years even but all this time, I never really worked with Shax.

I remember Justin always telling me about his little brother who could make music, who sang, who went to music school on the weekends etc but I never really listened - I mean, everyones got a little brother, or little cousin that they tell me about, hoping id take them under my wing (That sounds big headed - i mean more for me to "help them out and get started") - not all of who are the most talented! So im not gonna lie, I ignored justin for a minute! Im talking like four years during uni!

When I got back from uni though, I went back to my regular music making in London, and also teaching a studio engineering course in a local youth centre. It was at this youth centre (that Shax happened to goto sometimes) that Shax done a performance for some showcase one day.

So he came to me in the studio, in the youth centre to help mix his song for the performance. When this hyperactive, always singing to himself and moving around, teenager played me the song, I was BLOWN AWAY. This 16 year old (16 at the time), that I had ignored for these years actually had some FIRE - the song was called talk to me. It was VERY rough around the edges in terms of the mix and I think he had like two other songs fully recorded down to his lack of focus and sheer madness at that age but the talent couldnt hide itself. He performed the song and I decided to work with the dude. I wanted to hear more but he was very unfocused with batches of unfinished, half recorded songs or ideas just recorded on his phone, or unfinished beats.

Since then, we link up at my house to record sometimes backing on my tracks, but also and mainly tracks for his project, and the talent in shax has increased tenfold. I refuse to take any credit for his talent - I just saw the talent, couldnt let it be wasted so tried to focus it to get songs recorded.

I like to think Shax was like some musical BEAST in some huge forest with tall trees all around - I had nothing to do with creation of the beast, all im doing for him is cutting down some trees, making his path a little clearer.

Yea...
IM SURE SHAX WILL FILL IN THE GAPS WHEN HE READS THIS!!
More soon...

Random P.s I KEEP getting stopped by police - used to happen to me alot and I complained then they stopped - seems to be happening again - ima write a written complaint to superintendents, Local mps, local papers - if it happens to you or someone you know - dont let it slide - real talk..

Books...covers...judge...never.....yea...

I aint been around for a minute...yes I know - sorry.....been working hard...

...Nothing else to say about that ....

Ive got a FREE MIXTAPE coming out very soon that will be available on this blog and various other online sources so watch out for that.

Anyway, I didnt even write this post to talk about me (for once!). Basically, this morning, I done my daily "blog surf" which is when I check every blog I know to catch up with every piece of music and music related information I can find - im a blog fiend!!

So I eventually get to Kanyewests blog and go through that. On the Blog, he had posted a performance of Lady Gaga singin Poker face on Ellen. (Dont have to watch it ...YET!!)

Now Lady Gaga has had two number ones with her first two singles which is BIG...BUT I never REALLY respected her as a musician or artist like that - I thought she's some eclectic woman who got given catchy dance tunes, that do well. On the show though, she starts off the poker face song sitting (then standing on the chair lol) playing the piano, singing an acoustic version of the song. I was STUNNED. For one, she can actually play an instrument, for two, she can SING...like shes actually got a REAL good voice which she maintained fully when she sang the main version of the song with dance routines. Also, that song lyrically, is genius:

I wanna hold em' like they do in Texas, Please -
Fold em' let em' hit me raise it baby stay with me (I love it)
Luck and intuition play the cards with Spades to start
And after he's been hooked I'll play the one that's on his heart

The whole song is a metaphor of card games and her and some dude - playin cards - spades, clubs and playing with his heart etc...im sure u get it....

But yea - I was blown away and it got me thinking that sometimes, especially when people are very successful musically in the urban scene, we overlook the actual reason they are there in first place - talent. I think thats 'cause alot of people in the number 1 spot actually DONT have talent alot of the time but sometimes they do and I think we need to remember that...

ANYWAY...some other facts you may or may not know:

1. Will Smiths "Getting Jiggy with it" - Written by Nas
Will Smiths "Just Cruisin" - Written By Nas

2. Sauce Money wrote much of "I'll Be Missing You," a tribute to Puff Daddy's late friend Notorious B.I.G. (That song, incidentally, sold over three million copies; Sauce Money received $1,000 for his efforts.)

3. JayZ’s “I Just Wanna Love You” – co-written by Mase & Pharell Williams

4. Bow Wow’s "Let’s Get Down" – ghost-written by TI
Bow Wow’s "I’ll Move On" – ghost-written by TI

Its nuts innit!! the list goes on.

Obviously biggie wrote alot for lil kim but here is biggie actually rapping the studio demo of players anthem (that you will all know when you hear) two of the verses to be rapped by his junior mafia peers on the final cut - lil cease and lil kim.

Listen.. The first verse taken by lil cease, 2nd big, 3rd kim

Looney Autotunes!

Whats happening people,

This is a VERY different post from the normal ones but there is a reason!!

watch, enjoy, then read....(Trust me) Two videos - one here and one at the end of this post!

Basically - you lot KNOW me!! Selfed absorbed as hell lol. Na basically, on this blog, I try and differentiate myself from all the other blogs out there by ONLY posting self produced multimedia content be it mp3s, music videos, studio videos, home music videos etc...EVERY single one of my posts up until now, have been about ME!!

Aside from my self absorbtion (is that a word!?) its because I read ALOT of blogs and alot of them are either based on Kanye wests blog or just reiterate whatever he has on his blog, but a couple hours later - for me, the most interesting blogs, are the ones artists do about themselves - hence this blog.

I posted the video above, one because I find it very entertaining but also because it highlights a good point that this "Autotune" thing has gone a LITTLE too far!

A history lesson:

The original people that used the "tpain effect" with a studio tool called a vocoder or talk box, were Stevie Wonder, Roger Trump, and Teddie Riley. These dudes though were CERTIFIED musicians and also, when they done it, they had to play the notes that they wanted to sing - dunno if you remember seeing "blackstreet" on top of the pops but even to get this effect, was still a skill.

NOWADAYS though, the "tpain effect" is a result completely overusing and abusing a studio computer program called autotune which basically tweaks your voice when you sing ONE OR TWO notes off - pop stars have been using it for years. Tpain managed to find a new way to use it to replicate the vocoder effect - but please do not get it twisted - TPain believe it or not is a CERTIFIED musician - he can sing, and he plays keys..very well!!

These other dudes, (Including Kanye) I think, have been abusing it and have taken it too far and I think the video above highlights the fact now that ANYONE can use it to cheat make a DAMN GOOD SONG....

Controversial:

I reckon its cheating because I (in my humble opinion) think that singers talent lies in two places - lyrics and flow AND technical ability to sing...but MORESO technical ability to sing which is why it is fine for a singer to have a song writer, and why it is fine to stretch one word over the time it would take a rapper to say 20.

Rappers talent on the other lies in there lyrics and flow - lyrically, a rapper should ALWAYS be better than a singer!! the notes of the words can be anywhere - the more off the better even - there is not specific technical side with rap (like hitting the right note with the right amount of vibrato and dropping from falsetto to alto) which is why it is not acceptable for a rapper to have a ghostwriter. Its all and ONLY about lyrics and flow

Auto tune takes away the technical side of a singer and you are left with lyrics which alot of the time in these autotune songs (highlighted with the news song) are shallow as HELL!! which therefore takes away all talent from the song...

I dunno - all that was off the head - leave a comment on what you think about that...maybe ill say more later.
Watch the real way to do it:

The Seed : Beggar (mp3 snippet)

Following my new years resolution to do more collabs...I did a collab!!

"The Seed" is a collective of musicians put together by Bass player/producer Jack Blundell with the aim to encourage LIVE Pop/Hip Hop/Soul RnB in the Uk. Jack hooked up with me and shax after seeing shax on myspace and seeing him perform. I met Jack personally when I did the shoreditch performance a couple weeks ago (See my "shoreditch encore" post).

Basically, he sent a song (the beat done by live musicians including himself) to shax who wrote a verse and chorus for it, then sent it to me - I wrote a verse for it too and sent Jack a rough copy. Jack was happy with it so we all hooked up at my house on the weekend to record the song - unfortunately, I didnt record much of the session in terms of video but you can listen to the final product...ive included my LYRICS below (I remembered today that I loved reading lyrics in album inlays - downloads take that away...thought id use the net to bring that back)

Anyway...enjoy and rap along!!

The Seed ft Shax and Incisive: Beggar (Snippet)

Incisive Beggar Lyrics:

"Yea babes, ill be there babes"/Thats what he says
And she smiles, says "Ok"/and drops the phone
Then he prays like "Oh god!"/cause he is prone/to misbehave
See he aint going nowhere, no how,/no way HOSEI!
Already got an excuse/ to make it A-Ok
And shes all ready to introduce/dudes to pops and mums
Playing with her food/twidiling her thumbs
Looking at her watch/but he's watching the game
I tried to tell her/but she aint clocking his game
and you cant hate a bredda/hot on his game
He's got the ball/so when she gets home, its nutmeg
See - a text is all he needs to execute/his excuse
"My batt died-tried to get this charged
but she just got discharged/i couldnt leave my marge.
hope your parents didnt mind-plan to do another time -
honest, promise. xxxxxxxx"

After you've rapped along, listen to the FULL version here (trust me, its worth it!)

All Night Long...(free mp3)

Sup people,

So I realised today that ive been taking too long to update my blog. I guess to keep people really interested and to get them to check it everyday, I gotta update it everyday. Its not really practical to do this due to either my busy schedule - or because I just cant think of what to post - Dunno if you've noticed but I like to add a video or song (that I personally made) with every post so if I havent got anything new - I dont really post.

Ive been sitting here for most of the evening and now all of the night trying to find something to post but then realised that I spoil you - most bloggers just write stuff and dont neccessarily post content or those who do, normally post content that not even bloody there own and is available on 100 other blog pages - so why am I searching my brain and hard drive to upload new content - do you know how long these videos I upload take to edit!?!?!?

Anyway...I guess ill update you with whats going on - still pushing "Release" - my lead single/album - the video and single so look out for that - video is taking longer than expected to surface but these things happen.....the radio side is not bad though...couple people call me a couple times a week saying that "YOU'RE ON THE RADIO" which is cool - even though they normally call me when im at work so I answer with my mad work voice, talking all funny like "oh...really...that is excellent...speak to you more about it later"....

err what else....oh yea...

Im thinking of reorganising strategy again and put out a mixtape...a FREE mixtape..and then the album. After having new artist Drakes "So far gone" free mixtape on heavy rotation (Listen Here)- im not sure I can justify selling a mixtape - his mixtape is better than most albums I have heard in the last couple years - real talk - check that out if you can - its a free download.

Speaking of free download - I guess I cant post without giving you something....

Incisive & Hazardous : All Night Long (Produced by Nutty P)

The story behind this is as follows....

You may or may not know that I have been making music for like ever....like since I was 9 (1993...) I was actually RECORDING songs...(I find that impressive and pathetic at the same time - like..."wow you been making music for time!!!...you still aint blown??!")..anyway...ive done countless random songs but in terms of actual albums put together 3 ACTUAL albums with the guy I used to rap with (Hazardous) so these albums/mixtapes I put out this year will be my 4th and 5th studio albums. (I know its alot of stuff but my earliest stuff wasnt...lets say "commercially ready")...

However...All night long, the song I have attached was on the 3rd album we done in 2003 called "Checkmate". So yea...enjoy - I personally this song was ahead of its time and you can hear (hopefully) that by then, we had honed our skills to a mainstream level....my voice is deeper than it is now though...I think im happier now and so a brighter tone in my voice!!

Enjoy... and leave a comment

Not Where but Who...

Encore performance @ Shoreditch House - Watch then read!!!!
(Right click play button for full screen!!)

Ive had a crazy week this week with two quite big performances with shax and his band - on Monday at Shoreditch House, and on Friday just gone, I, Incisive, was live on stage at the Indigo02, again, with shax and his band.  Ive realised something this week that I wanna share with ya...sit up...

I really didnt know what to expect from either of them because truth be told, I didnt know what either what the nights were about!! They were basically Shax's performances that he brought me in to do the "Release" Track on. Thats the reason I didnt REALLY invite people down like that - it wasnt REALLY MY show!! I just happened to be doing one song with shax out of the four that he would be performing.

I did know that I was REALLY looking forward to the Indigo02 performance. I had heard that Shoreditch House is like a private members club and the people that go there are normally "Media" people. For this reason, I was a bit weary because "Media" crowds tend to be the WORST...no interaction, and minimal clapping!!!

The Indigo02 on the other hand has housed BUSTA RHYMES, NAS and several huge acts - it was a student sorta event as well so I was soooo excited about performing there and visualised a crazy "Dr. Dre" type concert when I performed (You gotta visualise your performances!!) - as for shoreditch - I didnt know WHAT to visualise!!!

Now that week is done though, Ive come to realise that its not about WHERE, but WHO.... In reality, the Indig02, even though it was on a huge stage, with proper lights, huge concert speakers, and we were filmed in HD and projected on two HUGE plasma screens for those too far back to see....the audience was DEAD.....Ive heard it all about there being "no such thing as a dead audience"...but na bruv...this audience was DEAD...and they were seated...so they were sitting down and comfortably DEAD!! We done our thing though and performed and that performance is something I will never forget because it was such a big place etc...we got off to a dodgy start but the performance and band was solid...ill have a video up for you later...

Thing is, Shoreditch house on the other hand, with a capacity of NO more than like 300 people compared to the 02's 2,400, was like i said before, the BEST PERFORMANCE OF MY LIFE!!! a small carpeted, non raised area for a stage, no flashy lights, no HD camera and plasma screen projection...just us (the band) and them (the audience)...and by them, i mean the most multicultral and "Colourful" group of people I have ever seen. But they loved good music...they were responsive once we proved ourselves, they interacted and the vibe in this small bar/room was the most energetic vibe Ive EVER felt - I went home literally BUZZING....

So yea....like I said, and I guess this can apply to all aspects of life....dates.....your job....holidays...everything.....

Dont be fooled by the flashy, shiny look of things...because sometimes....its not about where you are....but who you are with!!!

(Feel like Im talking at the end of Run's House huh....lol!!!!)

Nice one!!

Shoreditch House Perfomance video : Encore!

If you dont wanna read, the vid of the performance is at the bottom of this post!!!

This week has and still is a real exciting week for me. On monday night I performed with Shax and his band at Shoreditch House at a night called "Wired". Its a night of performances from all genres in a nice intimate environment with a good crowd.

We were meant to be on at 10pm but things were out of sync so we didnt get on till about 23:30 as the LAST act of the night. Just before us was some dude called Rhys Morgan singing with an acoustic band (guitar and piano) some VERY slow songs - I personally think he was VERY VERY good though - hollared at him on myspace after and all sorts...but it was the end of the night and he sorta brought the mood down with the vibe of his good, but downtempo songs - we had alot to do to catch up on...shax came out first and jumped in straight with his tunes and captured the audience IMMEDIATELY - I sat on the side in awe - after his first song, was my time to get up and perform release with him - I was soooo soo happy with the performance - we woke up and captured the crowd so much we got a standing ovation AND encore....below is the encore we did luckily someone recorded it - our camera died after shax's third song - ima put up the video of the whole performance later but for now...enjoy....

THIS I THINK IS MY FAVOURITE PERFORMANCE EVER!!! I wish you could see the whole crowd through the whole thing - the vibe was crazy!! WATCH TO THE END - THATS THE BEST PART!!

Right click on the play button for full screen!!

Oh yea - at the START of the performance, where the band comes in wrong, thats down to a "game" we play on stage - Basically, I give them a half a bar intro (two counts - "one, two") and they come in there - the problem is, on every performance, the count comes at ANY time and its in the form of "one, two, uh" - normal bands start songs with a full bar count like "one, two, three, four" so its much harder for my band to catch it especially when I say it at any given time!! - in this peformance, the first time i say it, they miss it!! I was being sly with the count anyway!!! I think it adds to the vibe though - they catch it on the next one!!!

Green Light...(free mp3!)

(Go to the bottom of this post if you wanna hear the song and not read about it! - cheeky!)
I got home from work today in that "possessed music mood" that I was in, in the "Cisive goes Funky (click to see)" post where I HAD to make music immediately - no food, no drink, didnt even take off my shoes - just loaded up the computer and got cracking (I just read that sentence back and there are one too many "Inverted quotes" going on ...ah well...)
So instead of making something completely new, I decided to revisit an unfinished song - I tend to make sometimes make beats and if the lyrics to the song dont "come to me" (unneccessary " " right!! :-) - if the lyrics dont come to me immediately or at least that week, I put the song aside and keep it moving - I might even get one verse out or a chorus but dont like forcing it if nothing else is happening.

This particular song is one of the TWO covers I was GOING to put on my mixtape until I heard someone else cover it - it was already halfway done with a chorus and verse done by shax...so I thought id finish it and put it up for you to listen...

First Magazine Review!

A quick "single promo progress post"

Yup, thats right, my lead single "Release" got a short but sweet review in this months (February) edition of D101 magazine. (Page 59 on the online version - click to read entire mag!)

D101 is a free magazine distrubuted in some record shops and some "Size?" trainer stores - basically an alternative to "Rwd" magazine.

Practice Makes...Acoustic?

Havent posted for a while - i been busy maaan! :-)

(Quite a bit to Read...but if you aren't in the mood - ive got a live performance video below - scroll down!!!)

So I been launching this single (feels like I been doing this one tune forever)...but yea man - still going - the video has been sent out and so we are waiting for the initial response - its in fates hands now...

Im still picking up radio play - Release has been on Dj 279s show for the past 3 weeks...Ive also got a couple shows lined up too....one in the indigo 02 on the 3rd march and one on 27th march "Inn on the green" in portobello road....but ill update you about those closer to the time...

Those that know me, know that I dont really do shows and there are two main reasons (many musicians may argue but hey...MY BLOG!!..

1. Is that i stand and watch AmAZING people perform all the time but I believe that if you havent got anything to follow through with - i mean, an IMMEDIATE way of people going HOME and purchasing your product - its pointless almost - i mean, they recognise you are good, nod they heads even - and you will expand your fanbase...but your new fanbase will go away and will forget about you until you have a product they can reach...at which point, they WILL remember you...but they wouldve purchased your stuff if they liked it without seeing your performance - which brings my point to performing to promote an attainable product.

2. Audiences are sooo soo hard to frickin please when they dont know your song!!!! (yes yes - i know - good practice...if you can perform as an unknown artist, it makes you stronger as a known one...) yea bla bla!! - i KNOW...and you are right...BUT....when you perform a song someone has heard before, it is sooo much easier and enjoyable - if you got a no1 single - you could play your song and just nodd your head on stage and people would love it - which brings my point again to performing mainly to promote an attainable product that is out or will be out in the near future....

I DO believe in performing to practice as well so that when you have your product together and you DO have to perform - you can be on point - but I would personally limit "practice performances"...

Lets not forget though, the love of performing which im not going to knock - it IS the best feeling in the world and so on second thoughts - even though I still believe in my logic stated above - I cant knock anyone for performing randomly - but at the same time, I wouldnt anyone for performing randomly (myself)!!!

ANYWAY...enough talking....

Myself and shax have got a show coming up (well shax has a show he wants me to do a tune on) so I joined him and his band to reherse our and his song...here is the FIRST full performance - obviously needs work...but we had fun with it...

ENJOY!!

P.S - this is like an extended version of the song...me, shax and the band got a little carried away..lol!!
P.P.S - More rehersal footage soon come - I may re-edit this - just couldnt wait to upload it!!!
